Faith Colson

Survivor advocate

Bio:

Faith Colson is the namesake of Faith's Law, which passed in Illinois and made several changes to protect students from sexual abuse in schools. She initially reached out to a legislator after making a delayed outcry and finding loopholes in state law. She worked for years alongside state lawmakers and school stakeholders to help draft, edit, and pass two pieces of legislation there. Since then, she has supported the work of survivors and advocates in other states, including Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Kansas, and Texas, where she has resided for over 10 years. After her local school community was impacted by educator abuse, another Texas mom reached out for help, and she has since been working to help close loopholes there. She has presented on the topic of educator sexual misconduct to various audiences, including teachers, school administrators, students, and parents. She currently serves on the research-practice-policy-partnership for the PCA America project studying the effectiveness of state policies, which is funded by the CDC. Her consultant role as the Community Engagement Coordinator involves sharing data findings with community partners to give them voice and hear their feedback, including at this conference in a data walk!
