The park ranger workforce is steeped in tradition and allure. Since the first park rangers began and ended their watch in Yellowstone and Yosemite, the duties of the ranger have essentially stayed the same, but the workforce has changed dramatically. The landscape of the modern workforce is driven by authenticity, autonomy, agency, and workplace preferences that illustrate everchanging values and expectations among today’s applicants. To thrive in this dynamic workplace environment, park rangers must adopt innovative selection strategies that align with the needs and expectations of the modern, Millennial workforce.
