Bio:
Richard D. Krugman, MD, is Distinguished Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado. He was Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs and Dean of the University of Colorado School of Medicine, serving in those roles from 1990-2015. He directed the C. Henry Kempe National Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect from 1981-1992 and gained international prominence in the field of child abuse. Dr. Krugman received his AB from Princeton University and earned his MD at New York University School of Medicine. He is board-certified in Pediatrics; he did his internship and residency training at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He served in the US Public Health Service at the National Institutes of Health and Food and Drug Administration 1971-1973, and then joined the CU faculty in 1973. He was a 1980-1981 Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellow serving as a legislative assistant in the office of U.S. Senator Dave Durenberger of Minnesota. He earned many honors in the field of child abuse and neglect and headed the U.S. Advisory Board of Child Abuse and neglect from 1988-1991. Dr. Krugman is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and has authored over 150 original papers, chapters, editorials and thirteen books. He was Editor-in-Chief of Child Abuse and Neglect: the International Journal from 1986-2001. He was the 2018 Co-Founder and Chair of the Board of the National Foundation to End Child Abuse and Neglect.
