Addressing Family Needs Following National Policy Changes: Lessons from Healthy Families New York
Wednesday, August 13, 2025
2:30 PM - 3:15 PM
Families are currently experiencing a multitude of challenges in accessing home-visiting services and many other services within their communities due to national policy changes resulting in fear of deportation. Program staff have also noted difficulty in retaining families already enrolled because of these same fears. In addition to families’ fears, many staff are experiencing insurmountable stress due to their own circumstances and the ongoing exposure to the trauma they witness and experience on a day-to-day basis. These changes have resulted in many individuals within New York State’s Healthy Families Multi-site system developing creative approaches and strategies to overcoming some of the barriers faced by staff and families. Join us to learn more about what Healthy Families New York staff and families are experiencing and how program staff and Central Administration are responding to many overwhelming needs. We will discuss what we are learning from our recently implemented statewide listening forums with program managers and supervisors, review solutions implemented by programs, as well as introduce a tool we are collaboratively developing to address staff distress. We propose to deliver this workshop in both English and Spanish.
