Evidence-Based and Emerging Strategies To Promote Maternal Nutrition, Activity, and Wellness
Tuesday, August 12, 2025
1:15 PM - 2:00 PM
This presentation will explore evidence-based and emerging strategies to promote maternal nutrition, physical activity, and wellness for families receiving home visiting. We will review prenatal and postpartum lifestyle change interventions and multi-level approaches that can potentially prevent gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) from progressing to type 2 diabetes. The session will also highlight new avenues in lifestyle change research, including the application of a “food is medicine” framework to reduce food insecurity and promote long-term maternal and child health. This team will be conducting a randomized trial of medically tailored meals for women with GDM who are enrolled in home visiting programs. By synthesizing the latest evidence and practical strategies, this presentation will offer insights into integrating effective maternal health interventions in home visiting programs, considering both individual and community level factors.
