Speaker Bio
Anthony Massaro is a Plant Ecologist with Jefferson County Parks & Open Space (JCPOS). He earned bachelor's degrees in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology and Environmental Studies from the University of Colorado Boulder. Over the past 13 years with JCPOS, Anthony has focused on studying, managing, and restoring natural resources, with particular expertise in native plant communities and rare plant species. Anthony has experience across a broad range of life sciences, with an emphasis on plant ecology, invasive species management, ecological restoration, and vegetation inventory and monitoring. In 2017, he established the JCPOS Native Plant Materials Program to collect, propagate, and amplify ecotypic native plant materials for use in ecological restoration projects. The program has increased the availability of locally adapted seed and plant stock, improving restoration success while providing a cultural management strategy to enhance the resilience of native plant communities and reduce invasive species establishment across JCPOS properties. Anthony is committed to the long-term conservation of Colorado's native ecosystems through science-based land management and restoration. His professional goals include continuing to protect native species and plant communities, implementing restoration projects at multiple scales using ecotypic plant materials, and establishing a native plant materials center dedicated to the production and amplification of locally adapted seed and plant stock for ecological restoration throughout the region.
