Sully Tun-Ake – Community Engagement Specialist & Park Ranger (she/her/ella)
Sully Tun-Ake is a first-generation park ranger and community engagement specialist who has been working with youth, families, and the public since 2010. Born in Yucatán, Mexico and raised in Aurora, Colorado, Sully grew up navigating the space between cultures, and recognized early on the powerful and healing role the outdoors can play in the lives of communities of color.
Her path into parks and public service began at Rocky Mountain National Park as a Bilingual Interpretive Ranger with the National Park Service. She later served as a Park Naturalist and Ranger with the City of Westminster, where she helped launch community-driven initiatives, including the Get Outdoors Colorado Inspire Initiative—to expand access to nature for underserved youth and families.
At Boulder County Parks & Open Space, Sully serves as the liaison between the Resource Protection Rangers and the Community Engagement Team. She has helped co-create and sustain meaningful partnerships and culturally responsive programs with historically marginalized communities. She continues to actively support bilingual and community-rooted initiatives such as Las Aventuras de San Lazaro (The Adventures of San Lazaro) and also coordinates the Left Hand Outdoor Challenge, a youth leadership program focused on connection to land, identity, and community.
As a member of frontline staff, Sully is committed to bridging community voices with access to outdoor and public lands resources, working to build more inclusive, welcoming spaces where everyone feels seen, valued, and a true sense of belonging in nature.
