Shannon Dennison is the Director of the Denver Mountain Parks and has worked for Denver Parks and Recreation for 9 years. The Denver Mountain Parks system was established in 1912 and is comprised of 45 parks and conservation areas outside of Denver’s municipal boundary, including the highest elevation municipal park in the nation, the world famous Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre, and two conservation bison herds that have protected vulnerable American bison for over a century. Shannon spent most of her career with the National Park Service before taking on her current role as Director of Denver Mountain Parks. Her leadership roles in national and local parks management have provided her with interdisciplinary experience in a wide range of park operations and resource stewardship. Shannon holds a BA in Anthropology and Native American Studies from the University of Montana and an MA in Historic Preservation from the University of York, UK.
