5D: Making a Climate Action Plan for your Agency: Playbook from City of Boulder's Open Space & Mountain Parks

Tuesday, October 7, 2025, 9:50 AM - 10:35 AM

In 2024, Boulder’s Open Space & Mountain Parks (OSMP) published its first Climate Plan—an OKR‐style roadmap built around 3 objectives and 19 priority solutions to boost ecosystem resilience, cut operational and visitor‐related emissions, and foster equity‐centered climate awareness. Parallel efforts in wildfire resilience and nature‐based carbon management (highlighted in our ArcGIS StoryMap) underscore how natural lands can both adapt to warming and draw down CO2. This session will showcase how OSMP staff integrated peer‐led workshops, cross‐department partnerships, and community engagement to turn climate science into on‐the‐ground action. Attendees will leave with a clear framework for crafting their own climate action plan, tools for staff and stakeholder alignment, and strategies for embedding resilience into everyday open‐space operations. Whether you manage trails, oversee land acquisition, run ranger programs, or lead environmental education, you’ll walk away with proven tools and a replicable process for embedding climate resilience into every facet of open‐space management.
