Shannon Dennison is the Director of the Denver Mountain Parks and has worked for Denver Parks and Recreation for 7 years. The Denver Mountain Parks system was established in 1912 and is comprised of 45 parks and conservation areas outside of Denver’s municipal boundary, including the highest elevation municipal park in the nation, the world famous Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre, and two conservation bison herds that have protected vulnerable American bison for over a century. Shannon spent most of her career as a cultural resources manager with the National Park Service before taking on her current role as Director of Denver Mountain Parks. Her leadership roles in national and county parks management have provided her with interdisciplinary experience in heritage preservation, ecology, wildlife management, education, facilities management, ranger operations, and visitor services. In her current role, Shannon leads the Denver Mountain Parks in shifting management practices for cultural and natural resources to better reflect the department’s mission.
