Attention: A return to fundamentals doesn't mean doing the easy things, it means foundational and core practices that enable success IT, product, and cybersecurity teams have long held the need to focus on the fundamentals. Risk management, email security, asset management, application security, vulnerability management, good backup and recovery practices; these are several examples of the critical and foundational areas that organizations struggle with, and often don't prioritize effectively. Whether it is buying tools without a specific view of essential capabilities, or struggling with they tyranny of the urgent, the result is the same, these result in poor foundational capabilities and practices. Through appropriate and diligent architecture, governance, process discipline, and the right technologies for the "right job", organizations can return to the fundamentals and be well positioned to mitigate risks and enable critical business initiatives.
