Apache Kafka is a widely adopted pub/sub messaging platform that can scale to handle huge volumes of data. It’s a powerful technology but notoriously difficult to configure, especially when it comes to Transport Layer Security (TLS). In this session, we’ll cover TLS best practices that yield a secure and compliant system, as well as critical techniques to maximize performance.

- Understand how to operate Kafka, Zookeeper and other distributed systems
- Secure message data both in transit and at rest
- Intelligently troubleshoot cipher selection issues across languages and libraries

Speaker Bio(s)
John Bullard is the Vice President of Engineering at Distil Networks. At Distil he heads the core platform engineering group, encompassing software development, data science and operations. Previously he was a member of the Office 365 launch team at Microsoft, where he focused on cloud security and scalability.
