This session is a formal survey of the security analytics landscape through both an industry and academic lens. Dr. Jim Treinen will discuss the strengths and failings of numerous techniques and proactively answer the questions you should be asking. The session will conclude with a proposed framework for considering analytics in your environment, and reserve time for answering practical questions.
Learner Objectives
After completing this session, the learner will:
- Have a better understanding of the differences in analytics approaches that can be applied to security problems
- Be better equipped to make informed decisions regarding where their defense strategy has caps
- Be better equipped to make informed buying decisions
- Have had to opportunity to ask direct questions regarding a very complicated topic of a leader in the field

Speaker Bio(s)
Dr. Jim Treinen is currently the VP of Threat at Carbon Black.He has built numerous intrusion detection systems. He coined the phrase “Analytics in Depth”, and speaks often on this topic. He was the principal designer for IBM’s intelligence and security data mining infrastructure, and has designed and built both network and endpoint detection systems.
