Description

Exfiltrating data through the Internet of Things (IoT) provide insights based on research/analysis of data exfiltration on vulnerabilities found in IoT protocols (i.e. SSDP, P25, Zigbee, Z-Wave ,Wi-Fi, uPuP). With an eye toward mitigating weaknesses in current protocols, this talk addresses future protocol designs to eliminate those weaknesses. This discussion will delve into the details and demo data exfiltration using IoT protocols.

The application of this knowledge will allow you to assess and mitigate these risks as you integrate IoT technologies into your production systems, as well as making informed decisions regarding  IoT device and protocol selection.

Mr. Drummond is a Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP) and is passionate about wireless cyber security. With the recent explosion of Internet of Things, (IoT) device enablement as well as mobile adoption - wireless has now become the easiest way to back-door the wired-side of the network. Wireless technologies do not follow the traditional guidelines of security and new methodologies are required in order to secure digital assets. Only through new thought leadership and innovation using software-defined-radios with big data analytics can these new broader spectrum attack vectors be identified. Accomplishments 802 Secure was awarded Silicon Valley Start-up of the Year in April 2015 and Silicon Valley Company of the Year May 2016. Most recently, in 2017, Mr. Drummond was awarded Most Innovative CEO of the Year. 802 Secures products are being sold through 5 of the most influential technology resellers in the US. Aaron is a Solutions Architect who, through his varied experience, incorporates the ability to design complex technical solutions while bonding with deeply technical individuals and creating relationships with management, senior and C level executives. Gifted his first computer on his 8th birthday in 1983, Aaron began his journey in technology by teaching himself how to program in the BASIC programming language and becoming one of the early sysops during the pre-Internet Bulletin Board System (BBS) years. During high school, Aaron excelled at Computer Science courses exploring multiple programming languages while also time-sharing with mainframe systems. Two years into obtaining his Electrical Engineering degree, Aaron was successfully wooed by one of the first Internet Service Providers in the U.S. and decided hands-on experience was more to his liking. Since those early days, Aaron has become an accomplished person in Silicon Valley. Aaron is experienced with technical support, Novell, UNIX and Windows System Administration, Network Engineering, Enterprise and Large Service Provider Network Design and Architecture, and has high level information security expertise in the vulnerability management, authentication, identity and wired as well as wireless network realms. Aaron has chosen to obtain hands-on experience over classroom study and although he has achieved several certifications, he maintains that the best proof of knowledge is to simply immerse oneself in the work. Aaron is committed to applying his knowledge while also bringing a curiosity to areas that he has not yet mastered; making him an individual in search of knowledge yet very willing to share his own for the greater good. Aaron resides in Oakland with his partner of 8 years, Diana, where they enjoy gardening; including growing and eating the world’s hottest chili peppers. They have two cats, Nacho and Taco, who love baths and playing catch. Aaron is an avid traveler, accomplished guitar player, and dreams of sailing tropical waters in (early) retirement.
