As the field of AI continues to evolve and expand, efforts by national governments to oversee new technological developments have garnered widespread attention. But what are state governments doing to address the concerns and opportunities presented by AI, and how are they using these technologies themselves? In this session, staff from the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) will describe recent legislative activity by states to regulate AI, including legislation that impacts how AI can be used by companies, citizens and the public sector. We will also discuss how state legislatures and government agencies have begun to use AI in government work, along with the rules and policies adopted to guide staff usage of these tools.
