Chief Information Security (CISO) and Privacy Officer
Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and HIPAA Privacy Officer for Denver Health, which is the level 1 trauma center/hospital system in Denver, Colorado. Before Denver Health, I worked 7 years for Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI), which is the 3rd largest non-profit health system in the US. At CHI, I served as the Information Security Officer for the health insurance plans, and also led the 3rd-Party Security Risk Management team. I've been working in IT for 20 years - 15 of that has been in cybersecurity and the last 10 has been in healthcare. I am a tutor for the Harvard Cybersecurity Risk Management Course. I am also an adjunct instructor at Ivy Tech State College, where I teach ethical hacking and digital forensics, as well as Affiliate Professor at Regis University. I hold a Masters Degree in Information Security and Assurance, along with the CISSP, Certified Ethical Hacker, Certified Hacking Forensics Investigator, along with 23 other IT and security certifications. I'm also heavily involved with the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA). I've been awarded the International Distinguished Fellow grade with the ISSA - I served as Chapter President for the Louisville, KY chapter for 8 years before moving to Colorado. I also speak and write frequently about risk management - I was featured in the Wall Street Journal's Cybersecurity Pro series - Day in the Life of a CISO. I also had a feature in Toggle Magazine's 2018 Winter II Edition. I've participated in multiple media initiatives, most recently with Forbes magazine and the CSHub. Before working in IT/Security, I was a Deputy Sheriff in Indiana, and I graduated from the FBI Citizen's Academy in 2017.
