G3. Crypto Hygiene 101: How I Learned to Stop Hoping for Security and Love Cryptography
Thursday, June 6, 2019
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
What does ‘secure’ even mean??? In cryptology, security is a function of time relative to your acceptable threshold for data loss or theft prevention. And cryptography itself is the absolute foundation to WHAT you’re protecting and HOW it’s being protected. The past, present and future of data protection is dependent upon a proper understanding of crypto-hygiene and practice. Join us in this entertaining but educational session on Crypto-Hygiene 101 to learn what buying a new toothbrush and picking the right conditioner have to do with protecting your organizations’ most sensitive data.
In this session, we will help learners:
Level-set on cryptography basics
Clarify perceptions of modern cryptography through real world examples
Map cryptographic practices to organizational security requirements
Share practical applications to increase the quality of your crypto-hygiene practices and therefore strengthen confidence in how your data is secured.

My name is Alex and ever since I built my first computer in middle school (for gaming, of course) I've had a fascination with technology. I've spent my entire career in high-tech, initially working in Financial Services at Merrill Lynch and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, to design and document trading and business systems architecture during the height of algorithmic trading practices. Prior to Unbound Tech, I spent the last half-decade at Cisco focused on cybersecurity engagements with customers spanning both the private and public sector across the entire U.S. What I value most about being a solution-provider is the vast amount of insight I've gathered from customers of all types and sizes across the industry. When it comes to innovation, I believe the market knows best and we will be successful individually, as we continue coming together as a community. I'm looking forward to delivering an informative message about crypto in a fun and entertaining way!
