Description
Session Description:

McKinsey is expecting  the Internet of Things (IoT) to have a $4 to $11 trillion global economic impact by 2025 as businesses look to IoT technologies to enable new business models.  IDC is predicting a 30% CAGR in IoT over the next 5 years. Gartner predicts that by 2020, more than 25 percent of identified attacks in enterprises will involve IoT.  A recent AT&T study reports that 90 percent of organizations it surveyed lack full confidence in their IoT security. A survey of IoT “stakeholders” by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) identifies “workforce development” as a major issue in cybersecurity.

Clearly, security is a huge concern with not only with IoT products but the explosion in mobile platforms, cloud computing, big data, and digital innovation in every aspect of our lives. A lot of the data that will be exchanged within IoT systems will be sensitive user data, creating myriad ways in which your data can be exploited by attackers whether it be as a nuisance, a theft, or a way to instigate  violence. It could be location data from a smartphone or an employee’s health data. Securing this data could be a matter of life and death and cyber security professionals are going to be pivotal in keeping the sanctity of the ecosystem.

To deliver on the security mandate CISOs must tackle three stark realities:
  • An expected shortfall of 1.5 million professionals as global demand for cybersecurity talent will climbs to six million cyber pros by 2019
  • HR systems and people management practices will have to change significantly to meet the challenges
  • Solutions will be expensive
