Practitioners and policymakers use research in a variety of ways, including decision-making, persuading colleagues, earning colleagues’ trust, reinforcing existing positions, and educating constituents (Bogenschneider et al., 2019; Weiss, Carol H., 1980). This two-part session will share insights from implementing two knowledge mobilization approaches – rapid response briefs and data dashboards – used by the HEDCO Institute for Evidence-Based Educational Practice to make research more accessible and actionable for interest-holders. Rapid response briefs stem from interest-holders’ needs for timely answers to questions about education practices or policies. We have piloted this service with our board members, who are professionals in the field of education in a range of roles. Board members were eager to ask questions regarding upcoming legislation in their state. Our response process involved conducting a quick review of relevant literature - prioritizing rigorous systematic reviews and meta-analyses - and media coverage on the topic to provide them with information on how given policies or practices may affect students, as well as the larger debate surrounding the issue. The first part of this session will cover our process for generating rapid briefs, the nature of questions asked, and recipient satisfaction and outcomes. Interactive data dashboards transform research evidence into dynamic, user-friendly visualizations that allow users to explore and filter data based on their specific needs. They can also provide real-time access to research updates, ensuring that interest-holders can stay informed as new findings are available. Our dashboards are specifically designed to make research findings accessible to non-research audiences and are regularly updated as we collect new evidence. The second part of this session will overview our process for developing and maintaining interactive dashboards. By providing timely and relevant insights, both approaches help bridge the research-to-practice gap and support evidence-based decision-making by addressing immediate and ongoing needs.
