Phil Schuman serves as Executive Director of Financial Wellness & Education for Indiana University (IU) and President of the Higher Education Financial Wellness Alliance (HEFWA). Since 2012, he has overseen the development and implementation of financial wellness programming across all of IU’s campuses, with focuses on reducing student borrowing, student financial stress, and financial barriers to college completion. The work of his team has been recognized by the White House, US Department of Education, as well as many national organizations.,

As leader of the Higher Education Financial Wellness Alliance, Phil works to help higher education institutions across the country implement financial wellness programs to better support their students. In 2021 HEFWA acquired CashCourse, enabling the organization to provide a turnkey financial education solution for institutions looking to better their financial wellness offerings to students.

Phil graduated with a BA in Psychology from DePauw University and an MBA from Indiana University. He lives in Bloomington, IN with his wife and daughter, the latter of which was born with magical powers that enable her to freeze anything on command (“Frozen” is on 24/7 in Phil’s household).
