Improving Measures of Financial Literacy, Wellness and Attitudes for a Diverse Population of Current and Prospective College Students

Impact

As the college-going population becomes increasingly diverse and the cost of postsecondary education rises, it is important to understand what prospective and current students know about financing their education and to assess their financial well-being. This session discusses ongoing research towards developing a series of survey measures of financial knowledge, attitudes, and well-being designed for prospective and current undergraduate and graduate students from diverse backgrounds. We will evaluate the measurement invariance of these scales with respect to gender and race/ethnicity. These measures could be used in national cross-sectional and longitudinal surveys, financial well-being intervention evaluations, and smaller scale research studies.
