DESCRIPTION

Jefferson County Open Spaces commissioned the Weed Blaster team, made up of Colorado School of Mines students, to design and develop a portable device capable of killing noxious weeds using an electrical current. Powered by a 20V DeWalt battery, the device steps up the voltage to 5-10kV through a transformer and integrated circuitry. Designed to operate for extended periods of use across varied terrain, the device incorporates marking a treated plant, as well as the ability to target both individual and groups of plants as needed. The device upholds the highest safety standards for both the user and the environment.
