DESCRIPTION
The Adapted-Hunt Drift Fence Technique (AHDriFT) is a novel survey method that combines drift fences with camera traps to create a non-invasive small animal sampling tool. The technique has successfully detected rare and imperiled small mammals and herpetofauna in the Midwest and Southeast United States, but it is seldom used in Colorado. We have implemented this method at various City of Boulder Parks & Recreation and Jefferson County Parks & Open Space properties over several field seasons. We are also in the process of developing an AI photo classifier to reduce photo processing time. We will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of AHDriFT, summarize equipment needs and installation methods, outline our AI photo classifier development, and present the initial results of our studies.
