4E- We Belong: Exploring Accessibility, Connection, and Community in Outdoor Programming
Monday, October 5, 2026, 2:45 PM - 3:45 PM
Elevation Hotel
DESCRIPTION
Since its founding in 1998, Women’s Wilderness has been a leader in the outdoor recreation space, working to reduce barriers to outdoor access for women, girls, and nonbinary people through inclusive, community-centered programming that supports wellbeing, leadership, and connection in nature. In this workshop, join the Women’s Wilderness team in an exploration of accessibility that extends far beyond trail design and infrastructure to include transportation, gear access, food, culturally-responsive support, interpretation services, emotional safety, belonging, and more. Participants will learn about our Conscious Choice framework, which encourages self-reflection, intentional decision-making, agency, and authentic self-leadership in the outdoors. Through facilitated discussion, small-group interaction, and shared reflection, attendees will examine practical strategies for reducing participation barriers within their own organizations and communities while reimagining how outdoor spaces can become more welcoming, healing, and accessible for all.
