Mark Giebel has served as Director of the 8,000-acre Backcountry Wilderness Area in northern Douglas County since its creation in 2006. Under his leadership, the Backcountry has been thoughtfully developed as a place where conservation, outdoor recreation, and environmental education work in harmony. Mark is committed to protecting natural resources while providing responsible public access and works to educate the community on the importance of that balance. His goal is to inspire a lasting appreciation for the outdoors and ensure long-term conservation through connection and stewardship.
