Colorado Parks & Wildlife
Brian Phillips serves as the Statewide Flatwater Marine Investigator for Colorado Parks & Wildlife (CPW), where he leads investigations into major boating incidents on Colorado’s lakes and reservoirs. In addition to his investigative role, Brian coordinates statewide boating law enforcement efforts, as well as CPW’s boating safety, education, and training programs.
He also leads Colorado’s Marine Evidence Recovery Team (MERT), overseeing underwater investigations and evidence recovery operations.
Since joining CPW in 2014, Brian has become a POST-Certified Criminal Investigator and holds a variety of specialized credentials, including:
• NASBLA Level II Boat Incident Reconstructionist
• Advanced Seated Battery SFST Instructor
• NSBC Boat Handling Course Instructor-Trainer
• Colorado Boating Safely Course Instructor
Brian brings extensive technical expertise in sonar interpretation and the operation of underwater remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), supporting complex marine investigations across the state.
