1E: Playing in the Margins: Where Open Space, Urban Space, and Community Meet
Monday, October 6, 2025, 9:00 AM - 10:15 AM
As cities grow and landscapes change, the most successful open spaces are shaped not only by professionals but by the people who use them. In this session, Adam Bienenstock, Founder of The Re-Nature Foundation and Bienenstock Natural Playgrounds, and David Skuodas, Director of Design, Construction, and Maintenance at Mile High Flood District, will share how authentic community engagement can transform parks, waterways, and gathering spaces. Through real-world stories—including the Westminster Station Open Space project—participants will explore how community voices, when included from the start, create spaces that reflect people, place, behavior, and relationships. An interactive activity and moderated conversation will give attendees practical ideas for applying these principles to their own projects.
