6B: Local Solutions for Wildlife Connectivity Challenges: Case Studies and Best Practices
Tuesday, October 1, 2024, 11:15 AM - 12:30 PM
As Colorado's population grows and development expands, there's a heightened interest among local governments, land trusts, and the outdoor and conservation communities to safeguard habitat connectivity and wildlife’s ability to move across the landscape. Local land conservation, zoning, and policies that promote connectivity are integral to protecting wildlife corridors at the landscape scale and supporting targeted investments in wildlife crossing infrastructure. The Colorado Wildlife and Transportation Alliance is collaborating with local partners to understand local planning initiatives, document challenges, and pinpoint opportunities for bolstering connectivity planning at the grassroots level. Drawing from a partner survey, workshops, and discussions, the Alliance is working to develop resources tailored for local partners. Join us in this session to explore the emerging tools, case studies, and strategies being compiled by the Alliance to support coordinated connectivity planning and implementation, and participate in a discussion on advancing crossings and connectivity for wildlife at both the local and landscape scale.
